Of late, one of my greatest desires has been to file a nomination and stand up as an independant candidate in the 2014 Indian National Elections. Of course, I wouldn’t act on my desires and actually really sacrifice my ministry work to get into politics, but I feel one of the best ways for the church to impact the politics and the politicians of this nation other than praying would be by getting into politics.

Now, I know that I would lose more than half of my readers’ interest with just the previous statement. But if you would stay with me for the duration of this post, you would understand the intent and the heart with which I say the same.

1. The best is yet to come

Most people are of the opinion that it is only going downhill from here; The politics in the nation is going to go from bad to worse, the corruption is going to increase, the economy is going to be worse. But the optimism in me tells me that the best is yet to come.

That belief in God’s good plans over our nation, and that the best is yet to come, drives me to be an active contributor into the national politics in small things, like casting my vote, and encouraging others to vote. It drives me to pray for the national elections, and the ones leading the election campaigns.

The church need not necessarily believe the promises the politicians make, but the church has to hold on to God’s promises and pray for the land. God has promised healing over the land in response to our prayer and faith.

2. Jesus loves politicians

I know most of you agree with me on this, but what can we do to reach out to the politicians with the love of Jesus? The church is the hands and feet of Jesus on the earth. Jesus called us the light of this world, and the salt of the earth.

How will the politicians of our nation experience the love of Jesus if we just withdraw from them and criticize them all the time instead of reaching out to them where they are? You don’t have to always join politics to reach out to them, but if that is your primary calling, you should consider joining politics.

If the politicians of our nation are disciples of Jesus, their acts will be righteous and God will definelty honor a nation that has righteous leadership. One of the reasons the West and Europe has been so prosperous, inspite of the fact that the gospel reached there much after it did in India, is that they had Jesus disciples in the leadership of the country, who led the country on Biblical principles.

3. Politicians don’t rule the country, Jesus does.

Psalm 47:7-8 NLT
For God is the King over all the earth. Praise him with a psalm! God reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne.

We need to get our facts straight. No matter who the prime minister of our nation is, Jesus is still the King! And the church has direct access with this King Jesus. Hence we have the power to change anything and everything that transpires over the nation.

It is high time that we move in authority over the length and breadth of India and declare love, joy and peace, grace and mercy to abound over the current state of affairs. And God will have his way, no matter who comes in power in this next elections. So, let’s remain ever hopeful, prayerful and ready!
