Once when Jesus walked into the temple He found a lot of people selling, borrowing, lending and giving things in interest and practising everything that is unlawful in the Bible, He was extremely unhappy, in fact, his heart broke.

He turned all of those tables upside down and said, “It is written, My house will be called a house of prayer. But you are making it a den of thieves!”. In fact, this is something that the prophets had spoken off in the old testament, and Jesus was just quoting one of them.

The house of God is supposed to be the house where prayer will arise to God all the time and it is supposed to go out into the ends of the earth for a blessing of all people of every nation, tribe, and tongues.

When this house stops functioning as a house of prayer, it is a nominal phenomena for this house to become a den of thieves. We should understand that our lives are called to have a deep personal fellowship with God. God has called us to a lifestyle of prayer, communion, seeking God, depending on God and knowing Him personally, yet when we live devoid of this knowledge then it will just be a matter of time when something exactly opposite will creep into our lives. If we refuse to fulfil the purpose with which God has called and anointed us and refuse to understand and submit to it, as a natural result we will become a hangout for demons and thieves.

If we study the scripture, the Israelites compromised on their purpose by living on the other side of Canaan so that they can build cities for themselves and live happily, but later we see that one among them is no longer living in cities but living in a tomb and is possessed by demons.
If we are called to be a house of prayer, we need to surrender to that, and if we don’t, the consequences might be extremely bad.

Let us run to God and become the house of prayer that we are called to be and be the man and woman of prayer we are destined to be and see how everything else falls into place at the right time.
