It is a difficult task to be specific! Being specific requires more efforts than we usually put in order to get our point across. Many people don’t like others being so specific and descriptive. Many get bored of so many instructions or detailed instructions. When we see the nature of God of the bible, we see that our God is a God of specifics!

Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks. For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die.” (Genesis 6:11-17)

God-is-specific

Wow! That description certainly took a lot of effort. So much effort that many times we skip reading some of the specific instructions given by God to His children. Another great example from the Word is of the building of the temple. Chapters over chapters are dedicated where God is giving instructions on how to build His temple. (1 Chronicles 28, 2 Chronicles 3 onwards)

Why is it important to be specific? Or rather why was God so specific?

Clear the Purpose

Being specific gives a clear picture of the purpose. “And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.” (Exodus 25:8). God defined His purpose for the work He was giving to man. Even in our dealing with people in our day to day life, we can observe that defining a clear purpose and then being specific adds to the clarity of communication.

Avoids Confusion and Misunderstanding

Many times when we are unclear and short in our description we are unsatisfied. We get a mixture of what we have vaguely requested with an addition of the person’s version to which we have requested. Being specific always and always clears confusion. It defines the reason of doing a particular act. It clears confusion for the giver and the receiver too. It helps avoid misunderstanding since the purpose is specified. If we observe in our work places, many times most confusions are created because of an assumption or an unspecific instruction. God calls out to us to be specific just like He is.

Makes You a Kingdom Person

Being specific is the nature of God and if you follow the same, you are taking on the nature of God which makes you a kingdom person too. It makes you a kingdom person on earth! People will admire the clarity with which you live your life for yourself and how you make things easy for others as well. Especially if any of you are in an influential position, this nature of being specific will showcase the kingdom through you.

It does take effort and pain to be specific. It is not easy to always give descriptive details. However in all this we must remember, if our Father did so, we ought to do the same. If He could take efforts, so should we.
