Build The Temple

Ezra 1:1-4 MSG
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, this fulfilled the Message of God preached by Jeremiah. God prodded Cyrus king of Persia to make an official announcement throughout his kingdom. He wrote it out as follows: From Cyrus king of Persia, a Proclamation: God , the God of the heavens, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has also assigned me to build him a Temple of worship in Jerusalem, Judah. Who among you belongs to his people? God be with you! Go to Jerusalem which is in Judah and build The Temple of God , the God of Israel, Jerusalem’s God. Those who stay behind, wherever they happen to live, will support them with silver, gold, tools, and pack animals, along with Freewill-Offerings for The Temple of God in Jerusalem.

This podcast is a repost, was originally published on September 8, 2017.

The verse was a proclamation by King Cyrus of Persia.

He acknowledges that the reason God has appointed him as king and given him all the kingdoms is so that he can build a place of worship to God in Jerusalem. Even though he is not a believer, he knows that his purpose is to honor His name.

As a believer, if you are living for yourself, remember that whatever you are, wherever you are, you are there because God has divinely orchestrated your life and placed you there. Because God has placed you there it is necessary that you spend your time to build His name and inspire people to build the kingdom of God.

King Cyrus addresses two categories of people: One is the people who belong to God – he tells them to go to Jerusalem and build the temple of God.

The second category are those who are not planning to go to Jerusalem – he tells them to send their money, savings and offerings with the people who are going so that they can use it for the building of the Temple.

This is the same pattern God uses in the New Testament church. There is a group of people who are actively involved in ministry and seeking to bring souls to the Kingdom of God. There is another group who might be sharing Jesus yet may not be available most of the time because of other commitments.

They partner with people they can entrust their resources with knowing it will be used for the building of the Temple of God.

Identify your role and where you belong. Is your role in actively building the Temple of God or supporting the building of the Temple or inspiring people to do both?

Remember that it is the Lord who has placed us where we are. We are here to bring glory to His name and build His Kingdom, not to build our homes and cities.

Commit your heart to the Lord and let Him use you to build His Temple of worship wherever you are.
