Return Faithless Israel
Jeremiah 3:12 ESV
Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, “Return, faithless Israel, declares the LORD. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, declares the LORD; I will not be angry forever.”
One of the reasons why we refuse to come back to God and into His presence is because of the mistakes, sins, and rebellion that we have committed and those things tend to tie us down from experiencing what God has planned and prepared for us. We let those emotions of guilt to stop us from coming to God and we feel that God will be very angry, he will reject and punish us, and he wants to keep us out of His presence.
Prophet Jeremiah is writing this message (Jeremiah 3:12) to Israel in a time when the world did not have a revelation of Jesus. We live in a dispensation of grace and revelation of Jesus of what He has done for us in the cross, and we know that forgiveness, restoration, redemption, and everything is available because of the blood of Jesus that was spilled for us and the body of Jesus that was broken for us. Because of the perfect, blameless, and sinless life of Jesus, we can now receive righteousness from God and we do not have to be afraid of God’s anger anymore. All that God wants us to do in to return to Him and confess our guilt, struggles and weaknesses, and when we do that the bible says He will do a couple of things.
1. He will release a fresh portion of His mercy over us and He will wash our sins away.
2. He will give us the grace, power and ability to withstand the temptation and all the things that try to take us under.
We want to make it look like to God that we have been good believers and when we come to God with that attitude, we receive nothing, but when we come and confess our brokenness, challenges, failures and weaknesses, God looks at us and says “My strength is made perfect in your weaknesses and My strength is made available for you especially when you are at your weakest”.
Will we return to Him acknowledging our failures and our brokenness this morning? The Lord wants to restore us.
