Shifting Loyalties
Job 31:24-28 MSG
Did I set my heart on making big money or worship at the bank? Did I boast about my wealth, show off because I was well-off? Was I ever so awed by the sun’s brilliance and moved by the moon’s beauty That I let myself become seduced by them and worshiped them on the sly? If so, I would deserve the worst of punishments, for I would be betraying God himself.

During Job’s period of complaining, he asks God whether his heart was set on money or wealth. Job was trying to find out the reason behind all the troubles that came upon him.
Job understood that if he went to his blessings instead of God, he would be betraying Him. He knew that it was God who blessed him.
One should not let their circumstances decide the importance of various things in their life.
Circumstances will keep changing and one may feel the need to pursue different things in different situations of their life.
There will always be some need or the other and one will keep shifting their loyalties if they decide their lifestyle based on their circumstances.
No matter the circumstance, if one is willing to pursue the presence of God, celebrate Him, host Him and imitate Him, nothing will be able to bring them down.
Job could stand through his time of testing because His loyalty was towards God and not towards the blessings that he had. He didn’t reject the blessings but didn’t let his heart be set on them.
One can receive the blessings from God and enjoy them but shouldn’t let their hearts be set on those blessings.
