When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.

Series: Overwhelming Victory

The story is about how the Israelites brought down the entire Wall of Jericho using no weapons- nothing but walking around the place.

Book of Joshua chapter 6 verses 15-20 says:
On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times. The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city! The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent. When the people heard the sound of the rams’horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.

This is the strategy that God gave them, that when they go to capture the city of Jericho, to walk around the city for seven days.

During the seven days, they were to walk silently, not say anything, not do anything, not fight or abuse, not be provoked to fight, and on the seventh day, to raise up a mighty loud shout and declare praises to God.

The wall that was built with stones, bricks, and necessities to keep people out, guard themselves, and be impenetrable, was brought down by an Israelite army that had no tools or mechanism to bring it down. They followed the strategy God provided them which was to scream and shout praises to God. He had already given them the victory.

As they began to shout, the entire wall- this big stronghold which had taken ages to build up, came down in a matter of seconds.

We are on the seventh day of our fasting prayer- the seventh day of seeking God together. The number ‘Seven’ holds significance. It represents completion- something perfect. When God created the universe- the whole creation- He finished it all in six days and on the seventh day He rested. The seventh day is a day of fulfillment, a day of accomplishment.

This is the day we’re in right now, and the Lord is saying that the enemy has been building up in our lives for ages, building a stronghold in our life too long. Now understand that by relating it to Joshua 6. Jericho’s purpose was to be a part of Israel- to be a part of the children of God. The people of the city were not willing to give up Jericho because of the big stronghold it had become.

All the areas of our lives which we think are unconquerable- the strongholds in our marriages, the strongholds in our families, in our minds, whatever has taken a long time to be built up, anything happening repetitively, patterns of behaviour, of spending, of worship, of ministry, anything that has been there for a really really long time- are the ones the Lord is giving us victory over today!

Be encouraged and believe today that we don’t need to go for counselling to break these strongholds. Do your best today to identify these strongholds and worship God for He has already given us victory over it. Jesus already finished all works and paid for it on the cross. He has given us victory over all strongholds. All we need to do is just receive it, just say “Amen”.
