A Single Rebuke
A single rebuke does more for a person of understanding
than a hundred lashes on the back of a fool. – Proverbs 17:10
Listen
Every time God speaks a word or reveals Himself to us and we encounter Him, there is change happening on the inside of us. This change is very much dependant on how receptive we are to what God is doing. Sometimes God has to do the same thing again and again for us to get the point. So thank God for His mercy to do so, for He will never give up on us because He is a loving Father. But what happens in this elongated process is that we go through unnecessary pain.
In the above verse, what the writer is saying is some times we can be very foolish and we may need lashes after lashes, even physically. The lashes on the back of a fool represent physical discipline. Sometimes when we do not understand things in the spirit and our mind, so it has to come down to our body and the physical level. But if you’re a person with understanding and wisdom, then a single rebuke or simple instruction is enough. It’s not just the fact that the rebuke or instruction is powerful, even the fools receive rebuke, but it’s that they do not realign their lives to the instructions as soon as it comes. The fool takes the voice of God for granted, they think the Sunday sermon is just for receiving information and they constantly procrastinate their repentance.
Fools postpone their surrender to God, thus requiring a hundred lashes, the wise realign themselves to the very first correction. Share on XMay we not have a hundred lashes but instead be wise and realign ourselves to God’s corrections.
