Series: The Reality of Hell
Our task this week has been to understand the reality of hell. Should we be scared of hell? What can we do to escape the reality of hell?
Bible is the most legitimate source of information for what happens after death because bible is not written by people but by the Holy spirit.
We read some words for hell like grave, eternal grave, place of burning and fiery furnace.
In today’s scripture from 2 Thessalonians 1:9, the word for hell is explained as eternal destruction and forever separated from God and from His glorious power.
What will happen if we are eternally destroyed and not dieing wherein our condition is only getting worse everyday and yet not coming to a place where you are not existing anymore?
Our physical body has the capacity to bear pain which is finite, however our spiritual bodies is not finite. It is something for eternal.
If a person ends up in hell, it is going to be eternal destruction. Whatever happens on earth is not punishment. God allows certain things to discipline us. The punishment for all our sins is already wiped away. The punishment for what we do here on earth we will receive when we are in hell.
Hell is not just place of flames, fear, fire or weeping and gnashing of teeth but also a place where God is absent.
Do you know why God gives us the punishment? It is because here on earth when we are given an option to live in the presence of God we choose to be separated from His presence and because that is the choice when we are on earth so God says He will send us to the place where He is not present and that is the place of eternal destruction.
Jesus came to this earth 2000 years back, He lived like human being and died for our sins. He carried our sins all the way to hell. He descended to hell a place where you and I had to go but He went on behalf of us. Jesus bore all the punishment for our sins. He was separated from God from the time when He was on the cross till He ascended to heaven.
We need to believe in Jesus and put our trust into Him and when we pray, something eternal happens, the punishment that was exclusively meant for us gets reassigned to what Jesus’s did on the cross. It’s already finished on the cross but when we say yes to it ,it gets sucked out of life and we receive the love, grace, favour, forgiveness that is meant for us that Jesus had to die for on the cross.
If you want to escape this reality of eternal destruction, if you want to not just be with God after you die but want to be in His presence here on earth as well, then do pray with me:
Dear Father God, I pray to You in the name of Jesus, the only name that I know that can make an access to the presence of the Father. I ask You Abba Father that You would cleanse my heart by the blood of Jesus. I have been wicked and I have been a sinner, but if You could just cleanse my heart with the blood of Jesus, I know that I can be pure, holy and a person who has access to Your presence. I don’t have to live outside of Your presence and I don’t have to go towards eternal destruction. So if You will just receive me Father, I would like to be a part of Your family. Forgive my sins, heal my heart, make me a new person right now. Thank you for hearing my prayer, in Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen.
