“You must be very careful not to forget the things you have seen God do for you. Keep reminding yourselves, and tell your children and grandchildren as well.” – Deuteronomy 4:9 (CEV)

Greetings in Jesus’ name. Welcome to this amazing new morning. I believe that the Lord is constantly at work at each and every one of our hearts and minds. His work in our lives will be according to our willingness to allow Him to teach, mold and transform us from the inside and outside.

The Bible says in Deuteronomy 4:9 – “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.”

The writer of this book is Moses himself. He’s the man that God used to do mighty works for the nation of Israel; the plagues, the mighty works in the wilderness, the great provision that God gave, the voice of God that was revealed to the nation – all of it was through this one man called Moses. Now Moses assembles the entire nation of Israel, asking them to be very careful. The danger in not being careful or vigilant in protecting what God has done and what God wants to do is that, we will automatically start taking the move of God for granted, stop appreciating God for it and think that it is because of our ability and that we deserve it. That is where God tells the nation of Israel that they need to be very careful when it comes to everything that He has done for them. The Lord says that ‘you should be careful that you do not forget the things that I’ve done for you’.

Is it possible that a nation can forget what God has done for them? Especially, after the kind of dramatic history that they had with God and their enemies in Egypt; all through their time in the wilderness. Is it possible that this nation can actually end up forgetting all that God had done for them? When we scan through the scriptures, we find that there are many instances where the nation of Israel had actually forgotten what God had done for them and they went seeking for help from people, their neighbors, pagan gods, idols and idol worshipers when God had told them that He was going to be their refuge, fight for them, and be their fortress and help. Whenever they forgot what God had done for them, they gravitated towards what was seen, visible and more appealing. In other words, there was a continuous need to be reminded of what God had done for them.

There will be days when you can’t see what God is doing for you; that is when you need to remember what God did yesterday, or a year back or two thousand years back when He sent His Son to express His love and die for you on the cross. You need to look back and remind yourself of what God has done and keep yourself reminded of what God can do; see the love of God and the protective caring nature of God.

The Bible says that you must be very careful that you do not forget these things or let them skip your mind. Keep reminding yourselves of what God has done. Remind yourselves of times when God fed you, arranged for people to be help you, and all those occasions when God has come through for you.

My dear friend, if you can make it your lifestyle today, to just keep talking to yourselves about what God has already done, celebrate the work of God from your history; if you want God to move in your present and your future, learn to appreciate what He has done in your past. Learn to celebrate it, talk about it, testify about it. The more you celebrate what God has already done, the more you make way for God to do more in your life. So be careful and do not forget what God is already done for you and keep reminding yourselves.

In the later part of the verse, it says to tell your children and grandchildren. So you should not only remind yourselves but also talk about it to your children and your grandchildren. Let your children and spiritual children know what God has done for you. Let them know what God has done for you and hear about God’s faithfulness in your lives.
Let’s pray that we be a living testimony today.

May we keep reminding ourselves of what God has done for us. Share on X
