One of the keys to receiving unlimited favour from the Lord is to know how to pray the right prayer. When we pray, it is not our desires which should be always uttered. It is the desire of God that we must express.
This is why we must rely on scriptures. When we read the Psalms we see conversations with God. Some of these conversations seem quite wrong. They maybe expressions of where their emotions are at or expressions of their disbelief. But we must understand the language and heart behind that because God has considered these prayers and has them recorded in scripture for us to receive from.
Psalm 86:17 (KJV)
“Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.”
When we read this, it seems like a self centred prayer. But if we observe closely, it is not about the self, but for the sake of the world around so that they may know Him.
He’s not praying for no more troubles, nor for comfort and prosperity. Regardless of what he is facing, all he asks for is a small token from God. He wants that token to shine in front of the world that hates him.
Let us ask of God for the same. Instead of praying to solve every problem overnight, let us ask for a token for good.
The psalmist says that not only would his enemies be ashamed, but they would know that it was the Lord that helped him and has comforted him.
Let His token be a witness and demonstration of God’s involvement in your life.
