Series: Solomon’s Early Mistakes

We started studying on the life of King Solomon. He was an amazing King. In fact he built the greatest temple and the most glorious temple for the Lord. He was the son of King David himself, so he discipled, led and was personally mentored by David himself which means he had to turn out to be a worshipper, an obedient person like King David, and person whose heart was loyal to God. However, King Solomon made lot of compromises, which he to pay for later in life.

Yesterday we read that how King Solomon had these passions for other people, wives & women. First of all his desires were misplaced. He had to realign his desires. God had set some boundaries and principles for marriage. However because his love was misplaced, he started going to the wrong places to find the answers for the needs that he was running after and we see that he ends up marrying a lot of foreign women.

Ponder: Are you at the verge of getting married or planning to get married? Then you have to marry a Jesus believing person.

Yet Solomon insisted on having his own way, pushing his own desires against God’s desires.

It’s not that Solomon was unaware of what God wanted from him. He was very well aware and yet he insisted on his own way. So many books in Proverbs are authored by King Solomon himself and you would see so many scriptures that warn us about not insisting on our own ways. If we do, it will lead us to disaster, destruction, chaos and confusion. When we rely on the counsel of God and trust in Him and not lean on our own understanding & wisdom, then we will definitely come out successfully.

In Matthew 19:21 when the rich man questioned Jesus about eternal life, Jesus replied to him saying, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
The rich man was sad and left because he wanted to serve God in his own ways but not in the way that God showed him.

Solomon did insist on his own ways and he saw the fruits of insisting on his own ways instead of surrendering to God’s will for his life.

Prayer: Lord not my will, but Thine be done in every step of my day & week ahead. I don’t want to insist on my ways but follow only Your ways and Your directions for my life.
