Some of you who read this post might not even be married or parents or in a position to adopt, but would you please take this time to think and pray a while about this important life decision?

Aren’t most of us blessed by the lives of our dear parents and siblings before whom we grew up? I am at my home in Mumbai even as I write this post. And I am enjoying so much of love and comfort that the next best thing I could imagine would be heaven. No matter how many reasons you and I have to complain against our home, it is still the safest and the most comfortable place on planet earth.

Can you imagine the fact that there are thousands and ten thousands of youngsters who grew up without the love of their parents or the comfort of a home. It is estimated there are between 143 million and 210 million orphans worldwide (recent UNICEF report.) Don’t we so easily despise or shoo away children who pursue us as at railway stations or traffic signals? The reason for them being that way is because they don’t have a family and a home that could sustain them!

Here’s my dream for our nation, what if every Christian family in this country chooses to adopt one orphan or homeless child for the sake of love that they so boldly preach on Sundays? Can you imagine the impact we would make on tomorrow’s society? It isn’t just enough that we just pray for a revival in our nation. It is hypocrisy to pray a prayer for which you are not ready to become an answer to!

When we adopt a child, we do so purely out of love, mirroring God’s love that he lavished upon us by adopting us into his family. (Gal 4:5, 1 John 3:1) God did not wait for us to be nice and good so that he could adopt us. He did that when we were still ugly outcasts not accepted or wanted by anybody. (Rom 5:8)

Why are people so apprehensive about adoption? At times, it’s cause of how the society will react. We live in a society that accepts and propagates open, uncommitted and live in relationships, homo-sexuality and all kinds of moral vices. We so gracefully accept them, then why not show the same favor to people who adopt a homeless child!

Jesus had to pay for our adoption with every drop of blood in his body. If you wish to adopt a child, there is a price you must pay, it is of course emotionally, financially and socially straining. It is easy for us to write a check and send monthly donations to orphanages or NGOs. I am not against orphanages or NGOs supporting homeless children. But please understand God’s family plan does not suggest that children be brought up in an orphanage! But in the love and comfort of the divine institution called “family“!

As a young man or woman will you decide to choose this road when in a position to make such a decision in your own family? At the same time will you spread the awareness about the same and share this post with couples and  families whom you could inspire to adopt? Here is a link to the Indian government organization who could help you in adoption.

A religion that is pure and stainless in the sight of God the Father is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. (Jas 1:27 ISV)
