We often live in the assumption that worshipping God is meant for Sunday services, and that too the first half of it, while the remaining time of the week is ours to spend on what we like and enjoy. Many a times our churches and culture around us continues to emphasise the same.

It could become a challenging thing to create a culture of worship through everything we do and in every breathing moment of our lives. The one reason why we are so constantly demotivated about worship is because we don’t know the importance and benefits of the same. Many a times we think of worship as a favour we do to God or to the worship leader in the front. Our enthusiasm to worship also keeps fluctuating based on the music, and even on the person leading at the service.

1. Because We Are Made for Worship

There cannot be a reason greater than this. We are created for God’s glory. To be able to worship Him is the greatest privilege that a human being has. If worshiping God is the main purpose of our lives, doing anything else or being anybody else won’t give us the contentment that God’s presence alone can give us. Can you imagine how your priorities will change and shift if your primary identity & calling becomes that of a worshipper.

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Cor 10:31)

God’s word exhorts us to let worshiping God be the goal of our lives even for something as routine and normal as eating and drinking. Let us be constantly aware of it and be working towards it in our everyday life.

2. Because We Are Prone to Idol Worship

Since, we are made for the reason of worship, when we fail in our responsibility to worship God, we end up worshipping other people or things, or most times even ourselves. Bible calls it idol worship. Anything apart from God that continually draws praise and attention from you is an idol in your life.

I have been personally put off every time I see someone literally worship an object or a person. For me it is just an indicator of the fact that the person has not had an encounter with God, the creator, author and sustainer of all beauty and glory!

The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the LORD made the heavens! (Psalm 96:5 NLT)

3. Because Worship Transforms Us

Worship is nothing but the state of a sinner who is saved by grace, when he beholds His holy creator. It is not always a very pleasant experience but it is definitely a life-changing experience. Worship has a purifying effect on us. When Isaiah saw the Lord, his immediate response was to acknowledge the lack of purity in himself, and God’s immediate response to his worship was to cleanse him with the coal from the altar. That’s what happens every time you worship Jesus by beholding Jesus in the beauty of his holiness. (Psalm 27:4)

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord-who is the Spirit-makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image. (2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT)

It is true that we are washed clean and made righteous the day we receive the redeeming grace of God and accept Jesus as our personal saviour. However all though our lives we will be constantly in the process of being transformed to be more and more like Jesus. And that happens as we worship Jesus. That’s why God prohibits worshipping idols. Because we become the person we worship. (Psalm 115:8)

4. Because Worship Opens Door to Revelations

Worshipping God is one of the ways of seeking after Him. The more we seek Him, the more does He reveal himself to us through the word, through the Holy Spirit, through circumstances, through people or ministers around you. Worshiping consistently also makes our hearts sensitive to what God wants, thus opening ourselves to receive fresh revelations from God.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7 NLT)

The more we worship, the more He reveales Himself, the more God reveals Himself, the more we fall in love with Him and fall down before Him in worship. Worship is the key that unlocks the doors into uncharted territories in your journey with God. The moment we take for granted where we are in our walk with God, instead of being deeply in awe of God, we will remain stagnant and stuck where we are for the rest of our life.

5. Because Worship Leads to Intimacy

Worship is also an act of submission and surrender to God’s will and purpose in our lives. It is that point in your life, where you give in to God’s desire over your desires.

He went on a little farther and bowed with His face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine.” (Matthew 26:39 NLT)

What Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsamane was an act of deep worship. It is a place of deep intimacy between two lovers, where one chooses to let go off all inhibitions, egos, self righteousness, ambitions and become naked, withholding nothing in his/her pursuit in becoming one in everyway with the lover of his life.

This is where Jesus is calling us and is leading us into, a place of knowing our true identity as worshippers, a place where we have no idols or demi gods in our life, where we allow Jesus to continually transform us, where we are eager to see and experience more of Him, where we keep nothing for ourselves, but lay it all down at the altar and be a living sacrifice.

If we can live our lives in continual worship, there is nothing that can stop us from living the victorious Christian life that God in Christ Jesus has prepared for us to live and enjoy on this planet and beyond.
