As a young minister I have often had the tendency to be led by emotions and by the need of the hour. At the same time I have had times when I lose sight of what God is doing, thus not participating in it. As a minister of the gospel, it is essential to have a very mature, balanced and Spirit-led perspective on matters of how, where and when to minister.

The key thing to have heaven’s perspective in our ministry is to maintain an outright principle of hearing God on every matter. Because God has a perspective of heaven and we have a perspective from the earth. And as the Bible says, it is better to not try to advice God as to how he needs to do things, instead hear Him out and get his perspective. (Eccl 5:1-2) Our life, its mission and purpose at times gets limited, because of a short and limited perspective. But imagine an eagle flying high in the sky, which ain’t bothered by the high rises nor the traffic jams, that’s how God desires our lives to be.

Jesus said “the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” (John 5:29) Even Jesus in all his perfection and sinlessness, was so limited during his time on the earth, that he didn’t dare to attempt to do anything that he has not seen his Father’s involvement in. How much more should we be dependant on the Father for specific directions concerning ministry.

Many a time, we go wrong because our motivating factor is either souls, or stage, or success! Jesus said “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. THEREFORE, Go….” (Matt 28:18-20) If only we learn to rely on Jesus’ authority and sovereignty, submit to him, abide in him and minister to this broken world, our ministry perspectives will change! It will no longer be about me, but about the power of the gospel that works in me!

May I encourage you to seek God more with regard to your ministry? To seek the Father’s perspective? And Seek Jesus’ authority? If you aren’t already involved in the ministry, will you ask God for directions to minister to this broken world?
