I couldn’t have written this post at a better time than this. I am just recovering in my heart from a crazy accident that I met with. Though by the grace of God, I was unhurt physically, my heart started hurting badly at the thought and reality of death. I am not sure if you will be able to completely understand the intense frustration it caused in my heart thinking this could have been it! My life could have been over.
Have you ever felt that you are not yet ready to face the reality of death? It could be your own death, or the death of a family member or relative. Have you already been struggling with the hurt from the loss of a loved one? Are you at a point where you are staring at death in the eye everyday? This post might just be for you. I pray that you will find comfort in it just like I found comfort in it myself.
The Author of Life
The first concept you should be aware of is this: God is the author of life. (Acts 3:15) No matter what happens to you and who does what to you, or how your body has been going crazy of late, unless God says, “It’s time”, you will not taste death. Every day of your life was planned, written and recorded in heaven even before you were born here on earth! (Psalm 139:16)
If God is the author of life, He also has the power to restore life into every dead area in your body. He can heal you and set you free from the cause of your greatest trouble instantly. If you have faith and the humility, you can pray for the same and He will heal you. Read James 5:16
Death, A Reality
Though God is the author of life, because of the existence of sin on the planet, death continues to have a hold over our bodies. Bible says, there is a specific time appointed for our death. (Ecc 3:2, Heb 9:27) It is a physical reality we cannot ignore or run away from. There are some teachers in the Christian circle who teach the immortality doctrine, while others teach that every perfect faith filled Christian will live on the planet till 120 years.
While many people who came up with these doctrines are dead, most of them before their 120 years of age, their followers still teach and preach the same. I am not here to prove anybody wrong or right. The bible is very clear on the fact that when our purpose and time here on the earth is finished, God will take us away into eternity, no matter how perfect or good we are. Hence, the essentiality of being prepared to face it.
Mourning, the Christian way
How do we react to the death of a near or dear one, inside or outside your immediate or extended family? I am sure there is hardly anything in the world that could quieten your grief and sorrow. God’s word teaches us to mourn with those who mourn (Rom 12:15). However, we are commanded to not mourn the way the unbelievers mourn. They mourn because they do not have any hope, we mourn only cause of the pain of temporary separation. (1 Thess 4:13,14)
Encountering Death
It is remarkable to read what Apostle Paul wrote when he was faced with the reality of death at the hands of a cruel Roman Emperor.
“I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me.” (Phil 1:20-24)
Apostle Paul saw death as an opportunity to go off and be with Jesus. The more you love Jesus over this present world, the more will you rejoice at the thought of death, because you can join the presence of Jesus. I don’t know why or when you are reading this, but if your time to meet Jesus is up, rejoice inspite of the pain, the suffering or the persecution. That’s only the labor pain preceding the birthing.
Escaping Death
Is it possible for us to actually escape death? Yes, absolutely! What we face in our physical bodies is only a shadow of death. The real death is the second death. And the second death is nothing but the lake of fire. And everyone whose name is not found in the book of life, will experience this second death, which is eternal, and there is no returning or redemption from that death. (Rev 20:14,15)
Inviting Jesus into your life as your Lord and as your Saviour from sins is how you can experience eternal life and thus escape this very real, second death. If you would like to do that right now, just pray this with me-
Dear Jesus, I invite You as the Master and as the Saviour of my life. Wash me of my sins. Give me Your life. Help me to live for You and experience the eternal life You have promised to all who believe in You. Amen

Wow.. This post couldn’t come to me at a better time. What about dreams that you see about the death of a person ?? Recently, I saw a really vivid dream that a loved one of mine passed away and it didn’t make any sense. Even after waking up, I still couldn’t and can’t get myself out of that shock. Does it hold a meaning ?
Wonderful post pastor…….and so sad to know that you met with an accident :(…….
Thank you Kenneth for the concern. We are all doing fine by God’s grace.
Thank you Esther,
The dreams might have a spiritual significance of something prophetic that is about to happen. It could also be God’s call to you to warn or pray for the person. Or it could be a weapon of the enemy to put fear in your heart concerning the same. Please take out time to pray about it and seek the heart of God and know for sure, what God wants you to do about these dreams. Will keep you in prayers.
Got clear for many questions abt death. Thank you for this post Pastor .
Thank you Divya, Glad to know you were blessed!
