Here’s a text from the New Testament teachings of Jesus, that I have recently been meditating and even ministering from. Please join me in understanding these three basic yet important aspects I have learnt from this text.

Luke 18:1-8 (NLT)

[1] One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. [2] “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. [3] A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ [4] The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, [5] but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'” [6] Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. [7] Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? [8] I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

The Son of Man returns!

Whether, you like it or not, whether you would believe it or not, this remains the truth and it remains the fact, Jesus is coming soon. We’ve never been any more closer to his return before than now. The greatest proof of Jesus’ place in history of mankind is going to be His return in the future of mankind!

I have never been more excited about the coming of Jesus. His coming is not going to be any secret or mystery. When He comes, every eye will see Him, every knee will bow before Him, every tongue will confess and every heart will know that He’s Lord!

That truth is left without any doubt. But the real question to us at this hour is whether we will bow down to His Lordship willingly, or will we wait till that great and awesome day of the Lord.

Jesus’ eyes would be on the ones that still have and practice their faith!

Is your faith fading away?

The story in the verses above talks about a widow who had to be persistent and consistent in her pursuit in order to receive the expected reward at the day’s end.

That is the kind of faith that Jesus is expecting to see when He returns, not the kind that was strong once upon a time but has been fading away ever since.

What causes our faith to grow weak? Is it when we don’t see things happening according to a fixed rule or principle? Or is it when people around you don’t turn up to be how you had expected them to be?

My personal experience has been this: Everytime I took my eyes off of Jesus and on to my circumstances, the people around me, or myself, my faith would either shake or grow cold!

Keep your eyes on Jesus!

What does it cost to keep your eyes on Jesus? I would say, everything! You’d have to get rid of every other voice and opinion from before you. It was at the moment when Peter looked at the waves that the waves got the power to devour him. As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, the water had no power over him.

Most times, the reason we begin to doubt and question our faith is because our eyes are not always set on Jesus!

May I invite you today, to fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith! And this good shepherd of our souls will lead us by still waters and by green pastures through all seasons of life!
