The Smallness of Sin

Good morning and greetings in Jesus’ name. I hope that you are ready to walk with the Lord in deeper surrender, a greater vulnerability and the willingness to sacrifice everything that it takes to have a clean heart before him. Sometimes when we come into His presence and we tell Him that we want to live for Him, He is going to expose certain areas of our lives that are at a compromised state; when we see those areas of our life, we have two options, we can either justify it and defend ourselves or we can just surrender to the cleansing work of God. Sometimes, this involves sacrificing friendships, relationships, responsibilities, resources and things that can benefit us physically, emotionally and materially; we may have to give them up and put them up on the altar, so that we can be cleansed and helped on the long run.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 5:6, “Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough?” Paul says that this is something that you should not be boasting about. He says that this boasting is terrible and he goes on to say that sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough.

You know how yeast works? It doesn’t require a whole lot of yeast for a big batch of dough. It just requires a tiny pinch of yeast and then Paul compares this little yeast to sin in our life. He says a small compromise in the eyes of the world, in the eyes of your Christian friends, your mentors, relationship coaches, all of them will look at the compromise and say that this is not a big deal, you can tolerate this. You may say to yourself that this is not a big deal, nothing bad will happen because of this small issue and yet Paul says that don’t you realize the terrible ending that it can lead you to! He says that this little sin, this little yeast, can spread to the whole batch of dough and can impact every area of your life. Every relationship, transaction, every word that you speak, everything that you view, listen to, visit will all be influenced by this little yeast. It is a scary thought and that is why Paul says in the next few verses, you need to sacrifice certain relationships, you need to run away from people that indulge in sin, he is talking about believers. When you hang around believers, we open up our hearts to them, connect to them on a spirit basis. Not just emotionally or spiritually, we open up our hearts to believers, brothers and sisters in Christ and he says ”especially when you find somebody who lives for the Lord and yet is willing a compromising lifestyle, not living for the Lord, not willing to turn around, not willing to take a stand, not willing to cut off from the worldliness inside of him, then you need to stay away from him, because the little yeast that he carries in his heart, is not just going to hurt him, it is now also going to destroy your life, it is also going to take you down along with him. So now, you have to stay away from this brother or sister. Paul says you should not even eat a meal with a person like that. Can you imagine the seriousness of this sin, this yeast, this little compromise, little bit of settling for the world!

My dear friend, let’s take this instruction seriously. We cannot take our purity, our walk with God, our relationships with the people around us for granted. A little yeast, a little compromise, a little letting go is all that it takes for that person, that sin, for that issue to now destroy us completely. Today, as I am speaking with you, there is Grace being revealed, released and imparted into your spirit and this grace is not only going to reveal the problem, it is now going to give you the grace to release you from this problem, disconnect you from this problem, disconnect you from this person, fellowship, their gatherings in the mighty name of Jesus.

Psalms 1 says, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.”

God is calling you blessed because you are consecrating who you will hang out with, consecrating your consecrations, your relationships and every aspect of your life. May the Lord give you the grace to be a set apart people and generation for the name and glory of our Lord Jesus. Have a blessed and beautiful day ahead.
