Good morning and greetings in Jesus’ name! Let’s pray that today, we will hear from the Lord, we will walk with the Lord, and, we will pour ourselves out before the Lord. King David prays a prayer of repentance in Psalm 51:3. He had killed somebody, committed adultery, and was trying to cover it up. There were a lot of ways in which he had offended the heart of God. It took a while for David to reach here. He was not conscious of his transgressions when he did transgress. The prophet of the Lord had to be sent to David so that he can know the gravity of his sin. Now that he had been spoken to, he had been taught, convicted, he says “I am conscious, I am sensitive, I am able to perceive and see, what God is trying to show me.
The mistake many Christians do is that they are unable to see their own sin. They keep justifying, they keep trying to avoid the blame. Here is King David saying “God has spoken to me, and so, now I am aware of this sin in my life. In Isaiah 6, it says, when Isaiah encountered the Lord, he immediately cried out saying “woe to me because I live among people with unclean lips.” As soon as he encountered the glory and holiness of God, he understood how much unholiness there is within himself, in his own environment. Until that point, he was unaware of it. He was criticising everybody else, he was prophesying to others, but, at that moment of encounter with God, he became conscious of his own transgressions.
Let us pray, the deeper we walk with the Lord, the further we desire to have intimacy and revelation of who God is, the more aware we will be of our own transgressions. The next line says “I acknowledge my sin, my transgressions.” Not only was he aware of his mistakes, but he was willing to bear the responsibility of his mistake. Then he goes on to say, “my sin is ever before me.” Now, David understood the gravity of his mistakes. So, he is saying, now I cannot just ignore the fact that I have sinned and I have done something horrible against God, now my sin is ever before me. Whenever I talk to you, I am aware that I am in need of your grace, mercy, and forgiveness in my life. It must have been very hard for David to overcome the guilt, pain, and anguish of disappointing God. Because, in the Old Testament, under the old covenant, the sin was only covered by the blood of animals. But, under the new covenant, after the death and resurrection of Jesus, our sins are not just covered, it is erased, completely removed from our lives.
Apostle John taught us this in 1 John 1:9 “if we freely admit, confess, acknowledge our sins before the Lord, then God is just, he is true to his word, nature and promises, he will forgive our sins and he will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
As we journey in our relationship with God and as we pursue a deeper level of intimacy with the Lord, it is going to be clear to us that we don’t deserve it. Our sins will stand out, our transgressions will be highlighted. It is important that we become conscious of it, acknowledge it, and keep our sins before us and say “Lord help me, give me your mercy, show grace on my life”. As soon as we confess, accept, acknowledge, God is gracious enough to cleanse us and forgive our sins, renew our lives. It will make us whole one more time.
