Everything for Show
Listen
Transcript:
Welcome to another day with Jesus!
We can do things to show off to people or we can do things that please and reflects the heart of God.
In the above verse, Jesus gives a warning about the religious people during his day. Jesus looks at their dressing sense, at their ability to carry their bible to church, ability to preach and declares that everything they do is just for show.
We need to ask ourselves if Jesus were to look at our daily devotional time, our time of worship, our prayers and commitments, would Jesus say the same thing about us too that we’re doing all of this for show? If God would say that about us, we’ve completely missed the point of the Christian life.
Everything we do on the outside needs to be a result of a deep personal conviction from God when at His feet.
We give because we have a revelation of how much we need to give and to whom, thus giving becomes worship to God. Otherwise, giving would just become a charity.
We could never impress God with our giving. Giving needs to be from a place of surrender and worship, laying it down as our devotion unto God.
May the Lord never look at us and declare that we’re doing things superficially and for show.
When Paul the Apostle would write for the church, he would say that even when we’re working for an employer, it needs to be done for God, from our heart and not for show or pay. When we do things from our heart, it significantly changes our attitudes and becomes easy to do. If something we’re doing for God feels like a burden to us, then our hearts aren’t in the right place and we’re not doing it for worship but rather from an external place.
