“The voice of Adonai calls to the city— it is wisdom to fear Your Name— “Pay attention to the rod and to the One who appointed it.”” – Micah 6:9 (TLV)
Good morning and greetings in Jesus’ name. Wherever you are, may the favour of God find you today, may the grace of the Lord locate you today. May the answers that you are searching for come to you right where you are. Sometimes, the way that the Lord packages the solutions and brings those answers to us is very mysterious. The problem with so many of us is that is that we do not even identify that this was the direction from which my help came or is coming and we completely miss out on the fact that God is involved in our life. As a result of that, we live the rest of our life believing that God did not help me. Whereas, God did help me and I ignored the help that God sent into my life. That is why it is so necessary that we keep our ears open to hear what God is speaking.
Abraham had to be hospitable to three strangers before he could receive the promise about Isaac. My prayer is that today you will find a way to identify the voice of God in your life, those authority figures that carry the voice of God in your life, find a way to submit to them, honour them, celebrate them.
This morning, the voice of Adonai is calling out to you, your family, your church, your community, city and to your nation. It is the voice of Adonai that is coming to you. Please remember that he is calling us every single day, season, occasion. We are not left without his presence. We are not left here on the earth to do our life without the provision of his voice. His voice is available for us every single day. It goes on to say “the voice of the Adonai is wisdom to fear your name”. When we attend to the voice of Adonai, what we receive automatically is the wisdom, understanding, revelation, principles, value systems that is hidden within the call of God over our life. This wisdom helps us to fear his name. For us to understand what God’s name is, for us to fear his name, for us to be able to respond correctly to the revelation of his name, for us to be able to honour that name, we truly need a heavenly understanding.
For a Peter when Jesus asked him “who do you think I am”? He had to have a revelation, not from experience, flesh and blood, but from the father in heaven. May that revelation be your portion today so that you are able to have the wisdom to fear the name of the Lord/Adonai.
The bible says “The voice of Adonai calls to the city, it is wisdom to fear your name. Pay attention to the rod and to the one who appointed it”. What is the voice of God speaking to the city? “Pay attention to the rod and to the one who appointed it”. Please understand the context in which Micah is speaking is the context of judgement, it is when the nations around Israel and Judah were hurting these nations. They were taking these nations into captivity, into exile. They were stealing from them, plundering them, executing their judgement and vengeance that God had against them. Now, the voice of God is coming over the city he says “You fear my name, you need to pay attention to the rod”. This rod may not look like you, it may have a different belief system; however, the Lord expects you to pay attention to this rod because of the one who has appointed this rod to affect your life, to change your life, to correct your life, to upgrade your life.
Each of us have this responsibility upon us to constantly change every single day, to constantly become a little more like Jesus, to become a little more into the image of the son. All of us do not need the rod to grow into the image of Jesus, but sometimes a rod is allowed, discipline is allowed, change and correction is allowed in some harsh circumstances.
In the story of the nation of Israel and Judah it was the repeated cycles of disobedience and running away from God. Because of which ultimately the Lord had to send them into exile. Now, God is speaking to them saying “I want you to remember this is what I am speaking to you in this season that this rod is appointed by me, it is what you have to value even if you do not like it, you have to pay attention to the direction that this rod is taking you into..” May I request two things off of you today. First, may you never wait for the rod to fall on you so that you have to change, may your change be immediate and quick and be a result of the conviction of the holy spirit within you. Second, if you are in a season when you are experiencing the rod of the Lord, discipline, sharp correction and pruning in your life, do not run away from it. Pay attention to this rod and pay attention to the one who has appointed this rod in your life. Because, if he is the one who is disciplining you, then it will turn out to be for your blessing, prosperity, and for your promotion. So, pay attention to the rod and to the one who has appointed it.
