Defile the Land

by | Mar 22, 2021 | Discernment

You must not defile the land where you live, for I live there myself. I am the LORD, who lives among the people of Israel.” – Numbers 35:34

Transcript:

Today, we have access to Gods presence, we can come boldly with gladness and confidence ready to receive what he has to give us. This season we have been praying to desire and pursuing the heart of God, wanting to host him in a very personal and intimate fashion but that will not happen unless we know the way, precepts and ordinances of God. when we invite a guest to our home, it is necessary to know what they like and dislike. The same with God, we have to understand His taste buds when we want to host him in our house. Sometimes we wonder why God wants certain things to be done in a certain way. It is not because he wants to restrict us but it is because he wants to live with us and among us.

In the books of Moses, there was so many rules and regulation on how to respond to certain sins in the land. Like murder; When somebody commits murder then there has to be punishment given out to that person who has committed murder this is shown in today’s verse in the old testament where God lives was in the tabernacle in a physical and personal way and He would expect them not to live in such a way to defile the land by killing or doing what would be sinful. We need to understand the gravity of the mistakes or choices that we make. It may look personal to us and we think it will not have any effect on others but when we do things in such a manner, God does not feel comfortable living in that land anymore.

Fast-forward to the new testament, Jesus equates hating someone with committing murder. Imagine what would happen if the Church has an understanding of the truth of how God feels about hatred and when we actively choose to walk in love and forgiveness in the grace God has given us then our land will be an inhabitable place for God. God’s presence doesn’t stay where there is defilement, pollution or impurity.

Praying that today we will be intentional to seek consecration in our land and in our nation and as we do so it is necessary to start with ourselves. Our choices and decisions have an effect on our land and nation. When we pray for our nation to see revival, what we need to first do is change our ways, confessions and the way we respond to struggles and when we do so it will change the way our nation will function because God will feel at home. Unlike in the old testament where they had to host Gods presence in a tent, we have that grace today to be carriers of Gods presence as our body is the temple of God. With this, We can experience that grace, freedom and blessing. Praying that the way we live and respond to relationships makes it easier for God to feel at home.
