Discerning Mind
Listen
The Lord has a way of renewing us from the inside out. Whenever we need a solution to a problem, we hope for outwardly changes. however, God changes the inside of us- our perspective, the way we think and reason. That is what can truly change the environment around us. The Psalmist in Psalm 119 is thanking God for His Word. He is celebrating the precious voice of God. He is talking of the commandments, the oracles, and revelations of God from His Word. Throughout this chapter, all the psalmist talks are the Word of God. He is not talking of his own personal issues but is simply declaring to God his love for His Word. In verse 169, He asks God to listen to his cry and puts forth his request to Him. Apart from thanking God, he is expecting from Him as well. A lover of God’s Word knows what and how to ask of Him. He asks God for a discerning mind that He promised. This writer knows the Word and is aware of the promises of God. He knows that he can receive from God a discerning mind. He is certain he can have it. He is not asking with doubts in his mind One thing that stops us from growing in discernment is a lack of love for God’s Word. When we read the Bible only as a chore, or to preach, or to quote it to someone else, or read it only to escape other responsibilities, without loving His Word, you’ll not experience the complete blessing contained in it. You may still get some answers, but you won’t experience the fullness of it. When we truly love His Word, then we will listen to His voice and will gain the discerning mind from God as promised. This is available to every child of God. This means discernment in spiritual things and also in the smallest things in daily life. It all comes from God. Love God's Word, depend on it, ask for it, and believe it. Share on X
