An Everlasting Name
Isaiah 56:5 NLT
“I will give them – within the walls of My house – a memorial and a name far greater than sons and daughters could give. For the name I give them is an everlasting one. It will never disappear!”

In Isaiah 56:5, God is promising something everlasting to the exiles who would return from captivity. What is this everlasting name that Jesus is releasing into our lives?
In the New Testament, we see that Jesus started giving a new identity to the disciples and He tells us that we are children of God. In John 1:12 He says to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. Jesus goes on to say that we are now called His friends. God continues to reveal our true identity under the new covenant. Every other name we are called by such as pastor, father, or friend, may fade away but one title will remain and that is the name that God has called you. In the scriptures we find God calling us affectionately with many names and that would never change.
We try to get approval and attention from people and that is why whatever the world calls us, we tend to adopt it and it becomes who we are. We cannot believe what people call us because God says He is giving us something eternal, something that will never disappear, no matter the circumstances in life.
Come to the feet of Jesus and lay down every other name that you have called yourself or people have called you based on your circumstances and difficult times. Don’t take a step forward without laying down every other title, even the good titles that you hold on to dearly. Lay it all down and take this new crown that God is giving you, calling you His beloved, His child, His confidante. May His name for you cause you to burn with passion to not believe or receive any other voice.
Prayer:
Father I pray that this morning there will be a replacement of identity, of value systems and of life directions because you are releasing a new name and a new identity into our lives. We don’t want to be stuck with what people say about us. We want to be valued only by what you call us and how you value us. That has to be the ultimate reality in our lives. Thank you for doing that in our hearts and lives. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
