This week we will be studying about disconnecting the traditions that at times have stop us receiving from God. Let’s have a look at scripture to understand it; this is Jesus speaking in the book of John 8:32&33.
What we at times don’t understand is the response that Jewish people had about this amazing truth that Jesus was telling them, This is what the Jewish people responded “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”. They probably couldn’t see what Jesus was seeing in the spirit realm they were looking back at their own traditions, they were looking back at their heritage, and they were calling themselves as the children of Abraham and they couldn’t understand what Jesus was trying to articulate it then. Jesus was talking about conditions of their hearts; Jesus was speaking into their souls,
The reason they couldn’t receive what Jesus was saying was because they were bound by their traditional belief system. They were under the impression that because they are descendants of Abraham so everything is going to be well with them, That is such a painful truth. What they have lost at that point of time they could have received a freedom right then and there, but because they responded saying we trust more in our heritage, in our traditions and experience, they missed that opportunity to understand what Jesus was speaking into their lives.
We quite often are in a similar state were we are always bound to our traditions saying this is how we have been doing things all this while, this is what our parents have passed on to us, so on and so forth.
Tradition is not Just what your parents have handed down to you over generation. Tradition is also you coming to God today and expecting Him to do the same things as He did yesterday. This doesn’t go in accordance with God’s standard because the bible says in the book of Lamentation 3:23 – “His mercies begin afresh each morning”
This week let us pray to disconnect all the traditions that we have been adhering upon over the years.
