Do We Need Elders?
1 Kings 12:8-9 MSG
But he rejected the counsel of the elders and asked the young men he’d grown up with who were now currying his favor, “What do you think? What should I say to these people who are saying, ‘Give us a break from your father’s harsh ways – lighten up on us’?”

This is spoken by Rehoboam, a son of Solomon who ascended the throne after Solomon.
It is foolish to reject the counsel of elders. It doesn’t mean all old people have spiritual counsel and advice. Trust the counsel of seasoned mature believers who have been walking with God for awhile and have the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon their lives.
Do you have elders placed over your life? If yes, are you submitting to them? If not, submit to them and you will see that your decisions have a flavor of God and a fragrance of the Holy Spirit. God loves to work through authorities placed over your life.
If you do not have elders placed over your life, pray and ask God for this. It is important to have elders and not just one mentor. The new testament church functioned through elders placed in every church.
A mentor will train you and push you into your destiny. An elder is someone who will counsel you from time to time, and to whom you will be accountable.
If you do not have the influence of elders in your life, you may be influenced by people around you. And they may not be godly people. No matter how strong you are, you may end up being controlled by the views and ways of others. Rehoboam almost lost his nation because of his decision.
The relationships that you nurture will either push you towards your destiny or distract you from your destiny.
It is very easy to be deviated from the purpose of God in your life if you’re not surrounded by the right people.
If God has placed an elder over your life, intentionally listen to them. Submit to them and respect the word that God places over their life because they honor God.
