It is very important to think, analyse and evaluate our thoughts, actions and desires that we think and linger on each and every day of our lives.

Sometimes we get used to living the way we used to live only because we don’t take a step to think if God is pleased with the way we live. What is God’s thoughts on our current lifestyle?

In fact, Apostle Paul says that before we take part in communion, we must evaluate ourselves, so we can disconnect from sinful ways before we participate in communion.

Keeping that in mind, here’s a word from 1 Samuel chapter 18, verses 9 and 10, that can help us to look into ourselves this morning.

The Bible says “And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David”. We all know the victorious story of David, how he brought down the giant Goliath. The bible says Saul grew very jealous and insecure about David when people praised and appreciated him for his big victory and bravery and so the Bible says, Saul from that time kept a close eye on David.

But Saul instead of being proud of having a giant killer in his army, he allowed jealousy to breed and grow in his heart which later became a poison in his heart.

The Bible says in verse 10 , the very next day an evil spirit sent from the Lord began to torment and disturb him even though he was anointed and chosen by God to be the first king over Israel.

Because of the constant jealousy Saul had for David, it opened doors for an evil spirit to take control over him. Sometimes evil spirits can influence us when you harbour bitterness, jealousy, when we can’t let go our insecurity and when we carry unforgiveness in our hearts.

Another biblical example is from the story of Cain and Abel.

Abel’s worship was more pleasing and better than Cain’s. But Cain, instead of celebrating and learning from Abel’s worship to and for God, Cain became very jealous of Abel and that led to bring a curse on his life.

It is very astonishing and scary when we read that an evil spirit was sent from God over Saul because of his jealousy. God’s help is assured when an evil spirit from the enemy is fighting you but what if this evil spirit is fighting you with heaven’s permission only because we have opened doors through our sinful lifestyle.

This morning, lets take this time to analyse and think what doors have we opened for the enemy to come and live in our home, health, finances, relationships, and, ministry.

Let us evaluate our hearts this morning, how do we feel in our hearts? Do we harbour bitterness against anyone, do we harbour jealousy? You know Saul didn’t go around telling people that David is bad but Saul only had a feeling in his heart. Only feeling in Saul’s eyes and heart led to an evil spirit taking control over him.

So before we go on with the rest of the day, lets make a decision to bring into light and get rid of every malice that does not glorify God in our hearts.
