Eyes of the Heart
Ephesians 1:18 NLT
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called – His holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance.
Open your life today to everything that God has in store for you.
In Ephesians 1:18, Paul writes a prayer to the people that the eyes of their hearts will be opened. If your eyes are closed, all you see is darkness. But when your eyes are opened you see the light that is surrounding you. Paul’s prayer is that our hearts will be opened and we will be able to see the light that is available to flood into our hearts. When the eyes of our hearts are opened, we will be able to understand and experience a revelation. We should pray this prayer every day that the eyes of our hearts would be open to receive a new revelation.
Paul specifically talks about a revelation – a confident hope for the ones who are called. Everyone who believes and follows Jesus are the called ones, the ones called out of a lifestyle of sin, called out of following the patterns and systems of the world and called into eternity. All this will sound like ordinary words that don’t paint a picture for you if your eyes are closed.
God calls us His holy people. He does not identify us by our weaknesses and struggles. He identifies us by His strength – Holiness is His strength. He calls us His rich and glorious inheritance. God is constantly thinking about you. He is deeply and passionately in love with you. Jesus died on the cross to purchase us as His inheritance.
Because we are His glorious inheritance, His called people, and because He has given us this confident hope, let’s pray that our hearts would be flooded with His light.
Lord, help our hearts to see, understand and grow in the revelation of who we are and what You have done for us and given us so that the fullness of it would begin to manifest in us, through us and for the glory of God in our generation.
Remain in the confident hope that God calls you His glorious and precious inheritance!
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
