Ready For The Good Work

Nehemiah 2:17-18 MSG
Then I gave them my report: “Face it: we’re in a bad way here. Jerusalem is a wreck; its gates are burned up. Come—let’s build the wall of Jerusalem and not live with this disgrace any longer.” I told them how God was supporting me and how the king was backing me up. They said, “We’re with you. Let’s get started.” They rolled up their sleeves, ready for the good work.”

Nehemiah is inspiring the common people to pursue their dream- to build their city and Temple again.

The kind of experience they’ve had for the last seventy years does not promise a fulfillment of their dream. Everything was completely destroyed. They were in disgrace.

One reason they did not start anything was because they were unsure whether the king was for or against them. Many Christians do not know that God is for them. Hence, they live in fear. But God is for the believer. The God of the angel armies, the Creator is with them.

When Jesus sends Christians on the Great Commission, He sends them on the authority that He has received, not on their own.

As the Father sent Him, He sends us.

When Nehemiah reminded them of the fact that God was with them, they were ready for the work.

Past disgrace, broken walls, bad history, bad theology, lack of faith, are all possible reasons that stop one from being ready for the good work that God requires of us to do.

The heart must be inspected to find out what stops one from being ready for His good work.

When all the hindrances are laid down at the feet of Jesus, He makes the believer a conqueror.

All hindrances to the good work of Christ must be laid at the feet of Jesus with a realisation of His authority and His love.
