Sorrow Awaits
Jude 1:11 NLT
What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion.
We see the following things from the above verse:
1. Cain became jealous of his brother’s worship and his acceptance before God. His brother’s spiritual progress made Cain very jealous.
You should never fall prey to the sin of jealousy and envy the way Cain fell prey to it.
2. Prophet Balaam fell prey to money. He decided to deceive the people of Israel because of the big love offering that he was getting from King Balak.
Not just in the world but even in the church, we are surrounded by people that can be very easily influenced by how much money and how often we can give them and how that can easily turn their heart to speak smooth things to us and they are afraid to tell us the truth and afraid to stand by the right thing and do the right thing because of the power of money.
It is necessary that we not only keep ourselves clean in this area but also look for those people around us that are struggling with this and we help them and teach them the right perspective towards money.
3. Kora perished in his rebellion. He was not willing to submit to Moses and that became a big reason for him to be destroyed. The earth opened up and swallowed him.
Three types of sins are mentioned here:
1. The sin of Jealousy
2. The sin of greed
3. The sin of disobedience/rebellion to your pastor
We generally wouldn’t categorize the sin of disobedience to pastor with the sin of greed for money or envy/jealousy/murder but God look at all these sins as the same.
Let you be somebody who will remain in submission and grow under the authority that has been placed over your life, and you will not fall prey to the greed of money or will be tempted to become jealous of the brother that God is blessing.
