The Destructive Legacy
1 Kings 14:21-24 MSG
Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he took the throne and was king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city God selected from all the tribes of Israel for the worship of his Name. Rehoboam’s mother was Naamah, an Ammonite. Judah was openly wicked before God , making him very angry. They set new records in sin, surpassing anything their ancestors had done. They built Asherah sex-and-religion shrines and set up sacred stones all over the place—on hills, under trees, wherever you looked. Worse, they had male sacred prostitutes, polluting the country outrageously—all the stuff that God had gotten rid of when he brought Israel into the land.

The state of Israel was bad when Solomon died and his son Rehoboam took over as the next king. As Rehoboam took over as king, there was a shift that took place and the kingdom split into two. The ten tribes followed another king and the other two tribes Judah and Benjamin stayed with Rehoboam.
There came a time when the women from other countries started to draw Solomon’s heart and he started to worship pagan gods. He was practicing the very same wicked acts David had warned against through the Psalms.
Solomon’s ways were passed on and his son Rehoboam was wicked before God, setting new standards of sinning and polluting the entire land.
Solomon took a small step but his son took a bigger step which polluted the city by pagan worship.
Let’s be people who would leave a legacy that’s God glorifying.
David’s compromises in his life led to the downfall of Solomon which further led to the fall of Rehoboam which was even more destructive.
Let’s be people who would live in victory over the power of sin.
Jesus has broken that curse and bondage on the cross.
As you set a high, pure and holy standard of living with the Holy Spirit living inside of you, you would be restored.
