A Good Conscience
1 Peter 3:21 HCSB
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Today we will look into some of the basics of walking with God.
Sometimes we think its only about trusting and believing in Jesus, but every time when we believe in Him, it has to be accompanied by works and acts of obedience.
One of the instructions that is given in the New Testament for every child of God is that we have to be baptised.
What happens when we get baptised?
1 Peter 3:21 says that baptism saves you. But Apostle Paul says that we have been saved by grace through faith, so why do we now need baptism to save us?
The verse further says – “(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
Peter here is saying that the baptism that we take in church is not for removal of filth from our body but a clear and good conscience toward God.
Why is Peter saying that this baptism will save you? It is because when you believe in Jesus you should not be stopped by anything from getting baptised.
There were people in the New Testament who got baptised immediately, because baptism was always supposed to be an act of good conscience toward God, doesn’t matter if your reputation is at stake.
Jesus said to go into all the nations, make disciples of all kind, and baptise them (Matthew 28). Its not only the job of your pastor, but also yours, to bring people to the place of surrender and clean conscience. It is necessary that you baptise them.
If you are not yet baptised, what is hindering you? Can you take a moment to google all the scriptures on baptism in Old Testament and New Testament and read upon them and let the Lord speak to you. Don’t be convince because your pastor is saying this, but be convinced that this is what the Lord is telling us to do through His word.
And if you are already baptised, can you ask God if you have a clean conscience toward Him and if not, ask Him what would it take to restore that relationship, because that is what baptism was supposed to establish.
And finally, ask God to give you the opportunity to tell about Him to people around you and use you to baptise someone and make you a vessel to bring people to Him.
