A Good Name
Proverbs 22:1 HCSB
“A good name is to be chosen over great wealth; favor is better than silver and gold.”
Heaven does not value our money, influence, network, and the connections. Heaven values only the motive behind everything that we do, and that is what will bring us eternal reward or eternal judgement.
Our external circumstances do not define who we are and what is on the inside is more important.
Our reputation is what people think about us, but our testimony is what God thinks and says about us. People do not know what is going on in our heart, but only God knows about it, and so we need a good name in God’s eyes. When we are trying to work up our lives, a good name is to be chosen over great wealth.
When Jesus died for us, He gave us a good name before God. He gave us a right standing before the Father. Now, heaven recognizes us not as sinners but as saints.
The choice before us is to either receive the good and righteous name that Jesus is giving us or to just receive the great wealth in the world and be called rich and wealthy.
The favor that God is showing upon us is better than silver and gold. Let us not underestimate the power of the favor that we carry. Let us not exalt our great wealth over the favor and the good name that God wants to give to us.
If we want to repent, we need to do it today and we cannot keep it for tomorrow.
Prayer:Lord Jesus I am sorry for the state of my heart. I am sorry for the wrong desires, for the priorities that I have in my life but this morning I want to repent and I want to receive Jesus as the Lord, as the saviour and as a master of my life. Even as I receive Jesus, I want that good name that comes because I receive Jesus. I want that favor. I want to be a recipient and a beneficiary of that favor that You are giving us this morning and I want to walk in the fullness and the newness of life that You want to give to us. Thank you for hearing our prayer, in Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
