Service is SWAG
Matthew 20:25-26 HCSB
“But Jesus called them over and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles dominate them, and the men of high position exercise power over them. It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,”
Since we are the children of God, we have a different standard that we have to live up to, the reason being:
1 – We represent God
2 – Our actions either push or pull people towards God
How will the world know that the God we are serving is a different God?
As a child of God if our actions are the same as the ones who worship idols then there will be no difference that we serve a different God. That is why Jesus is saying in Matthew 20 that we cannot follow their way of lifestyle.
The perfect role model that we have in this area is Jesus Himself. He came to serve and lay His life down at the altar.
Recently in a youth camp near pune which was conducted by Pastor Derrick and Kim, where Pastor Kim was sharing that service towards God is generally looked down, but in their church they want it to make it look cool and so they say Service is Swag!
In the world service is done for their self benefit for their firm or company, but for the people in church, our life needs to be different. Start serving people in your office, with your unbelieving family or with your friends.
The world needs to see the difference in us. The only reason people don’t see it is because we only serve the people in church.
Can you be led by the Spirit and look for one act of service that you can do for somebody through which you can show them the love of Jesus?
Ask God how can you be different in your service today and when you do, wait and watch how people will begin to recognise and respond to the love of God that is being expressed through your actions.
May your heart be filled with love and compassion of God and a desire to serve the people around you today and may that draw people to the saving knowledge of who Jesus is!
