Wherever the Lord has placed us today, He has given us a divine duty and a divine mandate to extend His Kingdom and to become an echo of His voice and an extension of His hands and His feet. In 2 Chronicles 23:7, it talks about a unique description of the responsibility of Levites. If we study the Old Testament, the Levites were never called to take up weapons or to fight battles. Their responsibility was only to worship and to take care of the Tabernacle. There was a particular point in history when the other tribes that were supposed to fight, protect, and go into battle did not do their job and the Levites were expected to guard, protect, and fight for what really mattered to the heart of God. The Bible says that there was a young king that was coming into power and the priest spoke to the Levites about a particular task. He said, “I can’t expect the armed men from the tribe of Judah to come and help us because they have lost their fundamentals and doctrine nor are they focused on the right things. But you, Levites who love, serve, and minister to the Lord, I am now qualifying you to protect the future king of Israel and to make sure that nobody comes near the king.”

The danger to this anointing was not from the people of the world. It was from the very own house that the anointing was built in. The Queen Mother (a figure who represented Jezebel) of the Kingdom was killing every royal-blooded person in the nation and the Levites were supposed to protect little King Joash from all these forces that were trying to take him down. The fact that the Levites were faithful to the Lord, qualified them for some unusual responsibilities in the political and economic forums outside of the Church.

All those who are true worshipers and faithful to the Lord, and those who love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength and whose primary calling in life is to serve the Lord, He will give us unusual responsibilities. The Lord is equipping us with certain weapons so that our secular responsibilities are done with excellence. The Levites are the change makers and transformers of a society. Let’s continue to depend on the Lord so much that our word, tasks, and actions will represent the will of heaven to be done here on earth.
