Do Unto Others

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus. The Lord is here with us today and he is about to encounter some areas of our lives, He is about to change our perspectives and lift us from the miry clay.

Wherever you may be today, or you decide to go to church or not, here’s wishing you a happy Good Friday. This is the day we celebrate the death of Jesus, the crucifixion of Jesus, the suffering that Jesus went through so that you and I can live a sinless life, so you and I can live a free life without punishment and away from the judgement of God. Today is the day we celebrate that! So praise God if you are gathered in the church today or part of a corporate gathering. And if you don’t have the opportunity to do that, praise God still from wherever you are and may He cause your day to be one where His name is exalted. May Christ be magnified in everything that you say and that you do and that you are.

Yesterday we learnt that a Godly person will also care for animals. In Deuteronomy 22:1 it says if you see your neighbour’s ox or sheep or goat wandering away don’t ignore your responsibility and take it back to its owner. If the owner is not nearby or you don’t know who the owner is, take it back to your place and keep it until the owner comes looking for it and then you must return it. Do the same if you find your neighbours donkey, clothing or anything else your neighbour loses. Don’t ignore your responsibility. So this is talking about responsibility, a commitment and devotion we need to have toward our neighbours to the extent that even if your neighbour loses an animal and it is wandering away or loses clothing or something else and they are not aware of it but you get to see and are aware of what they are losing it you have to spend time or even resources to make sure that your neighbour doesn’t have to go through that loss or challenge or difficult circumstances of something that is taken away.

would tell His disciples and the Pharisees that the whole law is summed up in two commandments which is “Love the Lord your God and Love your neighbour as yourself” and as long as you can do these two you are safe, you are right where you have to be. And here we are taught how we need to love our neighbour and how we have to go the extra mile to love the people around us. The Godly they are nice and they care and they are compassionate with everybody even to animals. However the wicked are not like that. The Godly want to become more like Jesus, be sympathetic and empathetic to others.

Jesus would say it like this “Do unto others what you would want them to do unto you” So if you had to lose your car or your business is experiencing a loss or if your family is experiencing a financial loss or some of your plans don’t work out as it should and its a loss and you see as danger ahead of you. How would you want your neighbours or your friends or churchmates or colleagues to respond to you or help you and how would you want people around you to help you or serve you. You need to remember that you need to be of service to others first you need to serve first. what happens usually is that we have our list of wants and expectations of each and every relationship whether it be a relationship between parent and child or siblings or spouses or church members or work colleagues and we having these expectations for them may not meet these ourselves and we may not serve them to that extend and yet we have an expectation that they will serve us and to that extent and even more.

Today can we take the first step to find ways to serve the people around us, to love them. The scripture says if you do not know the owner of the animal take it and keep it and get off your comfort zone you ought to take care of it and feed it and do everything possible to pay from your own pocket. Jesus spoke of the good Samaritan person where he would pay for the expenses of this man who was injured not only take him to the hospital but bore all the costs and treated in the way that he took it all into his own account. He was not just kind and compassionate but he put his actions, his resources where his heart was and that was proof of a true and genuine act of compassion.

May Jesus help us and enable us to be like that in this season. God loved us and He gave Himself up for us. If we love the people around us if we love our neighbours we need to learn to give ourselves up for their benefit and their blessing.

May this word encourage you as you prepare to receive on this Good Friday to seek the Lord and to worship Him. May the face of God shine on you and your day ahead and shine on everything that you are going to experience and encounter today.
