Having Fun

Ecclesiastes 4:7-8 MSG

“I turned my head and saw yet another wisp of smoke on its way to nothingness: a solitary person, completely alone—no children, no family, no friends—yet working obsessively late into the night, compulsively greedy for more and more, never bothering to ask, “Why am I working like a dog, never having any fun? And who cares?” More smoke. A bad business.”

Most of the times we are so career focused and decide our future based on the career paths chosen and how success depends on growth in the corporate, business or ministry.

We determine our success based on our career.

The Bible portion for today explains, all of this as smoke.

God’s plan for our lives is not about working like a dog. God’s plan for us is not to slave as well. We are called to enjoy in our Father’s house.

Sometimes we get obsessed with work so much that we begin to get greedy for more and more without having fun.

Let’s define ‘Fun’ : It’s not about going to clubs, bars or hanging out.

The Bible explains ‘Fun’ in this manner – Psalm 16:11 (ESV)You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Any career out of the presence of God makes us slog for more and more thereby working like a dog.

The best thing we can do today is derive our joy from the Lord in His presence on a daily basis, because there is fullness of joy in His presence.
