The eye that mocks a father and despises a mother’s instructions will be plucked out by ravens of the valley and eaten by vultures. – Proverbs 30:17 NLT
Transcript:

We are really blessed by the Lord to have wonderful people in our lives. We are blessed with people that we get to disciple, train and teach. God has placed us above them for a reason. These could be our biological or Spiritual children or people we meet at work and they are receiving counsel from us. Then we have colleagues, friends, relationships that are meant to be mutually beneficial and they are on the same level as we are. A third category is a group of people placed above us as authority figures. They may be parents, bosses, pastors and Spiritual Leaders from which we can be directed, trained and taught. We cannot treat each of these relationships the same way. The ones under us do not deserve the same honour as those above us. The same goes for those beside us.

It is necessary to honour those who God has placed in our lives specifically to be honoured and respected. Today’s verse shows that there is a curse spoken on those who mock a father or despise a mothers instruction. What we write on social media or say out is easily visible for everyone and can be judged or disagreed with but what is on our mind and heart about our parents and their instructions is one that only God knows and can Judge. We must know that God is watching all of these. The honour we show to our parents is the one that determines everything. It is very easy to express honour with our word of mouth but if in our mind and heart we do not respect them.

God sees the honour we accord to our parents. Share on X

Two ways we can show honour is to a person and the personal involvement in our lives. Sometimes they may not understand us or their methods may not be perfect yet we need to learn to honour them and submit to them. This is true not just for Spiritual Parents but for biological parents as well. Sometimes when we grow up and attain more knowledge than our parents are exposed to, we feel the urge to get proud and at times look down on them even if we do not say it verbally it shows in our perspective towards them. The scripture today shows that the eyes will be removed for a rebellious person. In essence, it will be more dangerous to see that our vision is killed or we get spiritually blind and we do not see. They may not honour us but we learn to submit to them regardless. The Bible says we should honour our parents and when we do so there is a blessing behind it. Declaring eyes and Protection over our vision.

Prayer: Father, Thank you for your word and this warning today, We pray that you help us obey this word and submit to this word. We honour you Lord and we honour all that our parents do to serve us and lead us day by day. In Jesus name. Amen.
