Who is the Light?

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. – ‭‭John‬ ‭9:5‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Transcript:

There isn’t a day when we’ve gotten into intimacy with God, and then come back to Him with a lesser understanding of who God is.
The more we seek God, the more we see ourselves, because God has made us in His likeness.
Let’s pray and hope for a fresh revelation of our identity.

In John 9:5, Jesus is declaring this statement about Himself to the people He was teaching.
Jesus added a condition in this particular statement, that “as long as I am in the world”, which means there would come a time when He would not physically be in this world, and that time this identity of ‘being the light of the world’ would be handed down to somebody else.
In Matthew 5, Jesus tells the listeners of the sermon on the mount “now you are the light of the world”, the same terminology He used to refer to Himself.

So we cannot be hidden, where people don’t experience the light that God has made us to be.
Jesus expects us to be the light of the world, to the ends of the earth, to all people, to spread the light.

So often we put the responsibility on God but that’s not what we are expected to do, we have to take responsibility.
Infact in John 9, the disciples were asking ‘whose responsible for this man’s blindness, is it his sin or his parent’s?’, Jesus responds, ‘neither. It is for God to be glorified’. Jesus took the responsibility on Himself.

We are lights that need to govern during the day and night.
Some of us are called to be a light to our church, to our family, to our children, to our government, to our offices etc.

So let us make sure to take responsibility of being the light in this world.

The more we seek God, the more we see ourselves, because God has made us in His likeness. Share on X
