Multiply in Exile
This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” – Jeremiah 29:4-7 NLT

Jeremiah 29:4-7 – “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”
This is a fairly discouraging and a disappointing season in the history of Israel where they are now living as foreigners in another country all over again. See the history, the testimony was that God brought them out of Egypt and gave them their own land where God settled them in Canaan and God gave them a land to call it their own and now centuries later because of their disobedience, because of the disobedience of generations that reached it’s climax the Lord had to exile them back to a foreign land to a nation that did not believe in this God, to a nation that did not allow their culture, their principles, their ways of worship and now these guys are back to being slaves to another culture to enter the environment and in that environment the Lord is speaking to them giving them guidance and direction as to how they should live here in a foreign land.
We would expect God to be giving them a word of comfort like don’t worry I will bring you back soon, so don’t settle here or don’t invest too much into this land; instead God tells them the exact opposite! God says that do not think that this is a temporary affair where although it was a temporary affair it was really for a period of 70 years and yet God says you need to build homes you need to plant vineyards, you need to start living here like this is your own land, start to invest into this land in such a way that you can eventually have dominion in this place. God tells them you can not dwindle away instead you need to multiply you need to be become much.
I don’t know who I’m speaking to, I don’t care what it is that brought you where you are: it may be a sin, it may be a failed marriage, it may be a failed business or it may be the fact that you didn’t really do well in education! It doesn’t matter where you’re exiled into, the purpose of the Lord in your exile is the same, He wants you to now have dominion where you’re living, it could be a land of shame, it could be a land of great guilt, it could be a land where there is absolutely no provision and yet the Lord says his plans for you is greater than the plans that you have made up for yourselves; His purposes for you is better than the purposes that you have chartered in your dreams because the Lord says if you will trust me and if you will continue to multiply even in your land of exile then there is a blessing that is awaiting you even in this place.
So, I declare that your exile will not determine your prosperity, your failures will not determine your blessing, your challenges and your limitations and your disappointments will not limit the plan and the purposes of God for your life.
So many times we are so hard on ourselves, when we commit a particular mistake or a sin or a blunder, the experience of betrayal, a lot of failure, we think that this is it, this is the end, we are going to die like this, we are going to mourn for the rest of our life, we can not be comforted anymore, we cannot be saved anymore that there is absolutely no hope left for me!
Today the Lord is speaking a better word for you, the Lord is saying enjoy this land, start multiplying even in the land, start producing fruit, this entire season you have the grace to experience and walk in dominion and this dominion is possible only for the diligent. Hence, the Lord is not looking for lazy people, he is not looking for lazy generations, the Lord is looking for a generation that is willing to go above and beyond their natural inhibitions, their ignorance and their rejection, feelings and all of that insecurities and are willing to go an extra mile and build homes, plant vineyards, eat of the labour of these vineyards.
Enjoy the blessing that the Lord gives you even in your exile. The Lord is looking for a diligent generation, those who will not be counted among those that have been a victim of their environment but will we be known as those that survived and thrived even in the season of famine, even in the season of exile, even in the season of catastrophic failures, may your faith be such that you’ll stand up tall that you will have the grace to multiply even in exile.
Let’s pray: Father we thank you for your provision, we thank you for this anointing, we thank you for this grace by which now we grow increase multiply and take over and have dominion on the earth; we thank you for you are with us and because you’re with us we will not fail instead we will multiply and we will bear great fruit all the days of life’s in Jesus mighty name we pray Amen.
