“Just ask the previous generation. Pay attention to the experience of our ancestors. For we were born but yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are as fleeting as a shadow. But those who came before us will teach you. They will teach you the wisdom of old.” – Job 8:8,9,10

A question for us today is , What is our source of information and where do we take classes from? We are all students and are all absorbing information and understanding as we live through everyday of our lives but where are we learning from? Some choose to look up to google or their circumstances or experiences and some choose to look up to wise people, the parents they have or those who have better experiences than them. Most times our sources of information and understanding tend to fail us at one point or the other.

In the book of Job, the wisdom given was rejected by God and He was upset with Jobs friends because they relied on their previous generation for their understanding and made their lifestyles and responses to God to be based on the previous generation. This is not saying that our leaders, or parents are not to be trusted but there is a limitation in putting our trust in what the previous generation tells us. There was absolutely nothing for them to look at as a reference point. The book of job was the first book of the Bible to be written and in their days there was no reliable and inspiring voice of God to use as a reference and Job even though he worshiped God he did not really have a revelation of who God was and so did his friends and that is why they relied on the hearsay witnesses of the previous generation and even then they got all their theology wrong. How much more we who have been given the presence of the Holy Spirit to live inside of us and the whole scriptures and even Prophets and leaders to equip and guide us in the understanding of who God is. How much more should we be aware of the things spoken into our lives that may not be actually true?

We cannot live for Jesus by doing things our way if we want to live for God, we have to do it his way. Share on X

Today, praying that we all go to the word of God and then we will rely on the Holy Spirit, allowing him to speak to us and get planted and rooted in the body of Christ. And we get taught so we do not depend on what other generations did. We cannot live for Jesus by doing things our way if we want to live for God, we have to do it his way.
