In this passage God not only says to just pray but before that He also says to work for the peace and prosperity of the city.

When we just pray and do not act, it would mean that we just have faith and no action for it and we know what the scriptures says in James 2:17 – “Faith without works is dead”

So whenever you pray, behave like the answer is on its way, that revival is coming, that the church of Jesus Christ is going to multiply and spread.

Do not live in fear. Go out and tell people about Jesus.

There is no point of us just asking God to fill our churches with believers when we’re not going to do our job of sharing Jesus at least to one person.

God will act when we pray and act.

In the verse God also clearly says to pray for the city that you live in. God has not called us to bring destruction or for judgement, but He has called us to bring peace and prosperity in the city. This is the job of an intercessor.

God also says that we are exiles, where we are placed by God is not our permanent home, yet God asks us to pray for the city.

Each city needs peace, the welfare of the city is going to be our welfare.

It is the believers’ responsibility to pray for the peace of the city we live in and work towards it as we are called as the “watchman” of the city we live in who is constantly on the look out for the blessing over the city that we are exiled into.

Every time you see a negative news on TV or any newspapers we as the children of God should pray and decline to accept it as a general statement over the city and declare peace and prosperity that God has given you over the city. What we have inside is more powerful and that is what will overcome at the end.
