For the Sake of Ten
Genesis 18:32 NLT
Finally, Abraham said, “Lord, please don’t be angry with me if I speak one more time. Suppose only ten are found there?” And the LORD replied, “Then I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.”

Sodom and Gomorrah were two cities that God had planned to destroy due to the wickedness and unrighteousness prevalent there, filled with people who did not seek God. When God told Abraham of his plan, Abraham interceded for the people asking if He would sweep the city away if He found fifty righteous people. The Lord replied that He would spare the entire city if fifty righteous people were found.
Abraham bargained with God till he reduced down the number of righteous people to ten.
Abraham’s dialogue with God shows us how persistent he was with God on saving the city. He knew the place deserves God judgment, but he began to intercede and persist on stopping the destruction.
We may be in situations where we think a particular event does not concern us, and if it doesn’t affect us, we tend to sit back and let it happen. But the job of the watchman is to be in continual communion with God, like Abraham. We should be willing to take out time to pray and walk the extra mile with God. As we get closer to God and know His heart, we have access to God’s plans and through prayer can even intercede to change it.
God is the ultimate goodness, love and kindness. Abraham was reflecting God’s goodness back to Him. When you walk with God, you begin to think like God and feel like God. You begin to understand the desires of His heart and bring it back to Him. God is waiting for intercessors to rise up and remind Him of His goodness and call forth His goodness upon our cities, upon our nations and upon the unrighteousness that is prevalent in this world. Let us be that intercessor!
