For Your Own Sake

Daniel 9:17
“O our God, hear your servant’s prayer! Listen as I plead. For your own sake, Lord, smile again on your desolate sanctuary.“

This podcast is a repost, was originally published on August 17, 2017.

When God respected, answered and even responded to Daniel’s prayer, it means that his prayer was powerful and had a capacity to change things around him.

In this verse, Daniel is calling to God and pleading Him to listen to his prayers that he is praying for God’s house.

Key for prayer:
The prayers that he prayed are prayed for God, for His glory, for His expansion of His kingdom so that His name be famous and glorious. This is the pattern that we see in the old testament.

Whatever you pray, whether it may be for a job, marriage or ministry let the focus of your prayer be for glorifying God. Most prayers get unanswered because of the fact that those prayers are prayed for self gratification. That is why Jesus taught us to pray – Lord let Your kingdom come and let Your will be done.

What does it take to pray prayers like this? – A lot of selflessness and a deep love for God.

You will see this in relationships. When two people are deeply in love, they begin to forget their own needs and they begin to put the other person’s need above them. That is why Jesus said, all of you who are weak and heavy laden, give Me your burdens and yoke, and take My yoke, because My yoke is light and easy.

So when you pray, the things that you pray for and the attitude has to change. There has to be a divine shift and an exchange between you and God and say, “God, no longer I am going to pray for my own sake, henceforth all my prayers are going to be directed towards You – Your kingdom come, Your will be done, How can I glorify and magnify Your name better.”

Daniel says – Smile again on Your desolate sanctuary. Why don’t you call out to God and ask Him to smile over your life, finances, marriage, church, ministry and everywhere. This is not a pretence prayer to get God to bless you as God knows your motivations and your heart.

Change your motives today, change the reasons why you are praying. Don’t pray for your own glory but for God’s glory and you will wait and watch how your prayers will never go unanswered.

I hope and pray that I will get to listen to your testimonies after this! Do email us if you have any.
