Questions of Confusion

Job 9:21-24 MSG
“Believe me, I’m blameless. I don’t understand what’s going on. I hate my life! Since either way it ends up the same, I can only conclude that God destroys the good right along with the bad. When calamity hits and brings sudden death, he folds his arms, aloof from the despair of the innocent. He lets the wicked take over running the world, he installs judges who can’t tell right from wrong. If he’s not responsible, who is?”

Job speaks this way because he is at a low point in life where he feels that everything is unfair and going against him. He is not questioning God’s goodness; he knows that God is sovereign and in control; but if so, he is questioning why everything is going down in his life.

As an outsider, we know what was happening in Job’s life. We know that it was the devil’s plan to get Job to curse God and die. But Job didn’t know any of this. From his perspective, he was a man who served God all the days of his life and what he got in return was unfathomable tragedy. Job lost everything including his very body, all his children, and his wealth and he didn’t understand why this was happening.

Some of us might be in this place of asking God questions and not having the answers to the things happening in our lives. God tells us to trust Him and believe that all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. For a moment, disconnect from your circumstances and worship Him.

At the end of Job’s story, when God began to speak to him, he was speechless and in awe of God. He began to pray for his friends and that one thing changed his life.

Come into the presence of God and tell Him that you will worship Him even if you don’t have the answers. This does not mean having blind faith which is not real. In a real relationship, it is perfectly okay to seek answers but do that from a place of faith and waiting on God. Expect God to speak to you and have His way in your life. As you do that, God will come through in your circumstances.

May the light of God flood into your hearts and the beauty of His holiness shine in your life. Even when everything is going wrong, let God be the one thing that is going right; the anchor that holds you firm through all storms of life.
