Rest & Purpose
Acts 12:5 LEB
Thus Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer was fervently being made to God by the church for him.
We need to learn to depend on God on a daily basis. Depend on Him at every moment. The life and purpose that we have, has to come from a place of knowing and understanding His desire, will and heart for our lives. When we see if some circumstances in our life aren’t in alignment to what God has planned for us, we have to learn to intercede and fight those battles on our knees.
Acts 12:5 – Thus Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer was fervently being made to God by the church, for him.
2 Scenarios are seen here :-
(1) Peter is kept in the prison
King Herod was very excited to see how much killing James, pleased the local Pharisees. So he wanted to please them further and so he sought for Peter to be killed the next morning. The Bible says that he set 4 batches of guards to guard the prison. Peter was on the inside of the prison and hence was not aware of anything that was going about on the outside. He probably knew he’s about to die, knew the church is praying for him, and understood that nobody but God can help him in this situation. So he rested in God.
Our prayer is more powerful when we are able to rest in the middle of our prayer. Share on X Commanding the wind and the waves is powerful when we are able to sleep on the boat. Share on XSometimes our peace is dependent on the answer to our prayers.
We don’t pray for answers so that we can trust in God. We pray for answers because we already trust in Him. Share on X(2) Peter rested in the prison
The Bible notes that as Peter rested, there was fervent prayer being made by the church for Peter.
The church was intentional in God’s plans for Apostle Peter and that is why he was able to get out of that situation and do the rest of the ministry that God had assigned for him. How many breakthroughs and destinies go missing just because as a church we are sometimes not intentional about praying for what God has revealed to us.
Sometimes what prayer becomes is more about material and tangible things that we can see or acquire to make our lives more comfortable, and it no longer becomes about serving the purpose of our generation.
Do we really believe the we and our church has been placed in that city or area for a purpose? God wants to establish a beauty and manifestation of His power wherever we are placed in our families, our churches, our cities, our workplaces, our schools etc., not for the purpose of making our lives convenient but so that we can bring glory and honor to our Father in Heaven.
Notable Key points :-
1. Pray from a place of rest.
2. Do not just pray for yourself but for His purposes to be fulfilled.
