Stubborn Desires
Jeremiah 7:24 NLT
But my people would not listen to me. They kept doing whatever they wanted, following the stubborn desires of their evil hearts. They went backward instead of forward.
The more we listen to Him, it brings us to alignment with His plan. We think that the first part of this scripture is for non-believers but He is complaining about His people.
In this context, the people become stagnant and stopped listening to God. When you stop listening to Him, you continue with your desire.
If you’ve been living a life devoid from God’s voice, you live the life you desire of. It may look that it is not sinful, but when you do it without listening to Him, makes it evil. We classify sins as murder, theft and other crimes but God talks about the fruit of the Spirit being love, peace, joy, self control, long suffering. We begin to survive without the fruit of the Spirit and we do this because we do not listen to Him and hence continue to do whatever we desire.
Your actions and desires may not be evil but your hearts might be evil. Let us not let our own thoughts lead our heart but let His Spirit have control over every part of us and leads us because when you follow your heart, you pursue the stubborn desires of your evil heart.
Hear His voice and continue to do His will and not do what your hearts says.
May we not go backward but rather keep growing.
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
