Series: Overwhelming Victory

The verse 10-14, it is the place where a battle is going on between the Israelites and the Amalekites. Moses, Aaron and Hur are not actually in the battle field. Joshua is the one who is fighting, and facing the enemy.

The Israelites are not skilled in battle, but because of the spiritual element behind this and the hand of Moses when he lifted his hand the same hand that made a way through wilderness and the red sea, the same hand destroyed the enemy that was keen them under bondage.

Here we see that Moses kept his staff up and as long as he kept the staff up the Israelites were winning the battle and as soon as he would keep his hand down, the Amalekites would start to prevail.

This is a powerful symbol of prayer. If we would like to see our life in constant victory, we have to learn how to use the authority that God has given us in prayer.

We don’t use our authority in the battle field with our sword, we use our authority in prayer.

It is more powerful for us to pray with our hand held high through the morning, noon and night than to argue our case with somebody. All of these don’t work. The easiest and the best way that will work is to ‘pray’.

The authority that we execute in prayer is greater than all the arguments that we can explain to people.

Physically speaking Moses could not stay up and pray the whole day. He was tired at a point. Moses wanted to fight it all alone but because of physical exhaustion and tiredness he had to give up. That’s where Aaron and Hur came into play.

The Bible says that Aaron and Hur found a stone for Moses to sit down.

They brought support for Moses. They stood on either side of Moses and held his hands and kept his hands steady and up in the air for the whole day till sunset.

The church needs to understand this, that we can’t fight the battle all by ourself. We need people around us who will stand by, support and pray with us.

Often times, the enemy’s greatest tactics against strongest of believers is to just isolate them. The enemy did this with Elijah to the point that he thought he was the only one of the Lord’s servant that is surviving and if he dies then there will be no hope for God on the earth. But God had to remind him about the 7000 prophets.

We have to get out of that mentality where we think that I am the only one serving the Lord, the only one praying and only righteous. This is definitely is not from God. In the Old Testament God appointed one person at a time but in the New Testament it is the whole body that is functioning together.

You cannot function by yourself.

Isolation is not from God. That is why God said – Love the Lord your God and love your neighbour. It is necessary for you to pursue human relationships that will support and stand with you. Like Aaron and Hur, they not only brought a place for Moses to sit on but they also upheld his hands in prayer. This is how you will know if the people around you are genuine.

If there are friendships especially close friendships where you see that the more time you spend with them your energy is draining, and you are not able to seek God and pray, then you should withdraw from such friendships. They can still be acquaintances, your classmates, colleagues but not your close friends, as then they will begin to influence your life.

The fellowship with the people around us can keep every aspect of our life steady or they can end destroying our life. Because of this the temptation that we have, we try to fight the battle alone and we don’t open up to anybody and want to remain private.

This is the temptation that you need to overcome in the name of Jesus.

We pray that God will bring divine fellowship with you this week and that God will break every spirit of isolation over your life.
