1 Samuel 14:6 NLT
“Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”

Series: Overwhelming Victory
Greetings to you in Jesus precious name.
The theme for this 21 days has been overwhelming victory – not just victory, not just overcoming but more than overcoming, more than conquers, more than victories. That is what overwhelming victory is all about.
When we rely on God is when we will really begin to experience the overwhelming victory. And that’s what we’re going to talk about today from the book of 1 Samuel Chapter 14 verse 6. In fact it’s an entire battle story. This is about Saul’s son Jonathan and his armour-bearer.
It says that they were surrounded by the enemy on all sides. And they were left with no options but to retreat. And this is what Jonathan did. He spoke to his amourbearer and he said – let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans and perhaps the Lord will help us for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether He has many warriors or only a few. So they climbed up using both hands and feet and the Philistines fell before Jonathan and his arrow bearer killed those who came behind them. They killed some 20 men in all and their bodies were scattered over about half an acre.
Suddenly panic broke out in the Philistine Army both in the camp and in the field including those who were at the outposts and the raiding parties and just then an earthquake struck and everyone was terrified. Then Saul and all his men were rushed out to the battle and found the Philistines killing each other and there was terrible confusion everywhere.
This is an amazing story of how God can turn around your battles and your defeatedness. Jonathan and his armourbearer decided that if we sit here we are going to die. If we sit here relying on our strategies, our strengths and abilities nothing good is going to come out of this and we are definitely losing this battle. But if we step out in faith we are going to give God the option to do what only He can do.
How often do we really give God that option and let God do what He can do. Are you relying on yourself or are you really relying on God. Because so many times we are relying on our abilities, our strengths, our finances, our careers our families, our friends. All these things and people we think that they will be there for us all the days of our life. But God is not somebody that you go to when you don’t have any other option. So many times as Christians we call the pastor or we call upon the Lord only when we know that there’s absolutely no option. The doctors are not going to help, the medical thing is not going to work out. Nothing’s going to help. That is when we go to God and that shows that we see God as the last resort, not as somebody that we are completely and totally reliant upon.
Change your perspective and your attitude towards God. God is surely going to allow some battles in your life just to be able to break that self reliance that you have. If this battle wouldn’t have happened in Israel, for all their life Jonathan and all of them would have thought that they were the ones who were keeping peace, conquering and ruling the nation. But because this battle happened they realized that this is not their doing but its God who did it. Jonathan said for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether He has many warriors or only a few. That is why Jonathan told his armourbearer that they both will go ahead and see if they can win the battle for the Lord because it’s not them.
If God is wanting us to fight the battle, He will make sure that they will come out of victorious and thanking and praising Him.
What are those battles in your life where you are still relying on yourself. You may not necessarily be trying to solve it in your own understanding but you may be relying on friends or on your pastor. But when you become dependent on the people that God has created to support and bless you and help you instead of being dependent upon the Lord, that is where things go sour. You need to rely upon God. Whatever is stopping you from relying upon Jesus, lay it at the altar because the Lord wants to help you. But He will not help you till you lay down whatever is stopping you from doing that.
May God give you the grace.
