Redeemed of the Lord

Mark 15:19 (NLT)
And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship.

Mark 15:19 reminds us of the suffering Jesus endured when the soldiers struck Him, spat on Him and mocked Him through false worship. His suffering points us to the price He paid for our redemption and invites us to trust in His finished work on the cross. Jesus offers us hope for renewal in our minds, freedom from the shame and humiliation we have experienced, and restoration in our relationship with God. We do not have to remain defined by our painful experiences, struggles or past mistakes, but can bring every area of our lives before Him and receive His transforming grace. The message also challenges us to examine the sincerity of our worship. It is possible to sing songs, pray and participate in church activities while our hearts remain distant from God. When our outward expressions of worship are not matched by genuine love, obedience and surrender, we miss the true purpose of worship. God desires a relationship that is authentic, where our devotion to Him is reflected not only on Sundays but throughout our daily lives. Because of what Jesus has done, we can turn away from pretence, hypocrisy and divided hearts and return to Him with sincerity. As we trust in His sacrifice and yield ourselves to Him, we can experience renewed minds, healing from shame and a deeper relationship with His presence. May our lives become a reflection of the freedom Jesus has purchased for us, and may our worship bring Him honour through both our words and our actions.
